This spring Popular Mechanics magazine introduced two new “green” cars to its readers. Although a new brainchild of University of Michigan Solar Team – Infinium – will be officially unveiled only in two months, the magazine’s Detroit editor Larry Webster test-drove it in March. According to his report, the car “looks like a UFO, starts like a turtle, is covered with 2726 solar cells and runs as long as the sun shines.”

Meanwhile, on March 26 a maker of electric cars Tesla unveiled its first commercially-viable electric-powered sedan, Tesla S. It sits seven, goes from 0 to 60 mph in fewer than 6 seconds, and by the end of 2011 will be offered for $57,400.
